you shouldn't take old men seriously

Since the first day that they'd met, Danny couldn't stand Viana. Danny wasn't normally so quick to hate people, but since she'd given him a knee between the legs before a "hello," he'd made a special exception. Since then, he'd lost track of how many times she'd socked him in the jaw, pistol whipped him, kicked him in the balls, or pushed him down the stairs. (Actually, he did remember the last one, it was only once.) When he'd complained to the Boss for the thousandth time, he'd just given Danny a pat on the back and said "She's only flirting with you!"

Now while any normal person would regard the Boss's statement as teasing in itself, Danny took it to heart. W-Was that really true?! All this time Danny thought Viana was just a hot-tempered bitch, was it really just her way of expressing her feelings? That had to be it! No one would act as crazy as she did otherwise. And that's when he decided: He'd be a man and ask her out.

The biggest problem was timing. He didn't want to ask her when her brother was there, but it wasn't often that the two of them were separated. So he did what any smart guy would do... and hid around a corner and waited for her to come out of her room.

Nope. She really was just a hot-tempered bitch.

Viana left her room rather casually, having no idea of what was in store for her today, of all days. She turned around and shouted something into the room, in a language Danny couldn't understand, and would likely not be able to understand even if he were stuck in its native country with a translator, before turning around, allowing the door to close behind her. She certainly didn't look the part of blushing lovestruck maiden - not with her hair tied haphazardly on top of her head, hands in her pockets, and chewing noisily on some piece of gum.

Oblivious, she headed towards the corner Danny was hiding behind.

Viana didn't even shrink back at the sudden invasion of personal space - perhaps Danny just posed so little of a threat that she didn't even feel the breach. Instead, she just stared Danny down (despite being shorter), and popped the bubblegum bubble she had been blowing, chomping down on it with white, sharp teeth. That should've been the first warning. "Hi," she answered, tone deadpan and severely unimpressed at having her path blocked. "Can you move?"

That should've been the second.

She seems to brighten a little at the question. "Oh, Boss has a job for me?" Because the only reason Danny would otherwise voluntarily put himself in this sort of position had to be some sort of errand. Viana didn't even consider another explanation. It just had to be that. "What does he need me t'do?"

One eye twitched. "To do what," she prompted impatiently, hand clasping into a fist. Danny was getting on her nerves; why wouldn't he just get to the point already if there was an assignment?!

Viana stared at him for a second, eyes narrowing slowly. That should have been the last and final warning. She took a step back, both hands tightening, before drawing her arm back and letting her knuckles fly straight at Danny's nose.

Viana stared down at him from all her five-foot-something glory, over the bridge of her nose. She was shaking her fingers out, like she didn't even want the idea of contact to stay on her skin. She answered disdainfully, wiping the back of her hand on the side of her pants. "For your stupid questions. I don't have time to babysit you," she said, even though she had just told him she wasn't busy. "Go make out with your dog, or something."

This time, she doesn't even step forward. She just leans back, raising a leg to jam her foot into his lower stomach (about an inch or two before doing some real damage to all future lines of Garamond). "What kind of shit were you inhaling to make you think that?"

whoops sorry about that tense change back there

She looked impressed, actually. She hadn't ever made someone cough blood just from a weak punch and kick (not even after a series of them). Either she had grown stronger, or Danny had the constitution of a twig. Viana wiped some of the blood off her knee in distaste, wiping the dirty hand off on Danny's shoulder afterward (wasn't her mess, after all). "I just don't like you," she said, plainly. "You're just so..."

"It's not my blood," Viana said, in a tone that clearly also said, That is so obvious why are you so stupid. Her entire closet and personal belongings probably didn't even match up to the price tag on Danny's current outfit, or the amount for dry cleaning his little shirt was going to need, either. That thought made her smile.

Her foot raises again, the sole of the boot stopping an inch from the top of Danny's head, just hovering there, right above his face. "No, I'm not," she answered, a statement without much room for argument.

Viana just laughed at that, lowering her foot, but not without 'mistakenly' grazing his forehead with the toe of the shoe first. "Someday, probably, but not today." Slipping her hands back in her pockets, she glanced down at him, like how one would spare a fleeting second of attention at some harmless pet. "Is that all? I'm going to get going then."
