doublejimers

[What a rough week.

Not that any week in Infinity is rough, given the lack of work, but sometimes those events take a lot out of a guy. Like those zombies, or swapping bodies, or countless other things that shouldn't be possible. It's not unusual for Dojima to hit up the bar, anyway - even if he is alone. There's nothing like a cool, soothing beer in the summer, too. Dojima finds himself easing already, bottle in hand, simply sitting at the bar and watching soccer. He was never much for sports (maybe a bit of baseball), but it's more entertaining to watch than he thought, especially with all the others in the place getting into it themselves. Not a bad atmosphere at all. He's still more subdued, though, what with being by himself. Oh well, still fun to watch.]

You're telling me you're from the future!?

[...Oh. For a second there, Adachi thought Dojima meant other reasons as to why they were acting strange. Slowly, he sits back down, looking relieved.]

Just a little. You're from...somewhere 'round last year, right? It's not far off.

[But a lot can happen in a year, now can't it?]

2011.

Not too far back, I guess.

So why's it you're keeping your mouth shut about the case?

[identity profile] nowheresman.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
That'd definitely be messing something up, right? Some big time paradox thing. Ooooh! Just like in that movie 'Moth Effect'! Did you see it, sir? It's all about messing with the past, and going back to find out that suddenly, the world ended because of you! Everyone you care about is dead! The world is overrun by zombies! Space ships are creating black holes in the middle of planets!

[You might be mixing up a few movies there, Adachi.]

I guess that makes sense…

But sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever be going back to Inaba... does it really matter in the long run?

[Now that's a difficult subject no matter when or where you're from. Adachi's smile freezes in place, and then slides off like paint slipping off wet glass - messily and quietly. He doesn't answer because he doesn't know the answer. Jeez, he wonders the same thing, once in a while.

Instead, he averts his eyes, staring down at his coffee instead. He'll let the Dojimas handle this one on their own.]

Well, guess I should be used to these kind of surprises by now.

What's with all the deflecting, anyway? Whether or not you're from the future ain't gonna change the fact that this punk needs to learn a lesson or two. What're you so lenient on 'em for?

[identity profile] nowheresman.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Adachi glances at the other Dojima, brow raising, and regains his grin.]

Yeah. Why are you so lenient, Dojima-san?

[identity profile] nowheresman.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Adachi turns to the less-familiar one, one corner of his smile lifting a little higher than the other. It has a bit of bite to it, and a hint of teeth show through.]

You wouldn't believe a lot of the things that are different from what you know.

[After all, this Dojima reminds him of less pleasant things too, and the sheer skepticism and disapproval radiating from him feels a little like...the past coming to collect, in a Did you think you'd really get let off that easily? sort of way.

Clapping his hands on the table, Adachi tucks that smirk underneath his customary friendly smile as he stands. Anything Dojima might have thought he saw is hidden under that facade again.]

Anyone need more coffee? I don't know 'bout you guys, but sleeping on the couch is pretty tough on the back - even worse than falling asleep at the office all those times. Puts this really bad crick in your neck, haven't been able to get it out since. Guess that shows me for trying to pull a fast one on you guys, huh? Who knew karma'd come biting so quickly, though...

[identity profile] detectivedad.livejournal.com 2010-07-07 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Fine.

Just don’t screw it up.
