the tl;dr meme

To participate in this meme, any character (original or fandom) can post to this meme. Other people respond to that thread with questions about that character, about their headcanon, about their original canon, or even about the player's thoughts/plans for that character. You can answer to any length of your choosing, but hey, it ain't called the tl;dr meme for nothing. You'd be surprised how much this kind of thing can help you develop your character and their plans!

To do her job and do it well. Aquilos have a tendency to be extremely dedicated whenever they've whenever they've resolved to do something (Didn't know that? Neither did I!), and Quelorie is no exception to that. Since she's gone to Gladsheim to help their military, she probably just wants to do her best to help them succeed, whether whatever they're doing is morally right or wrong. (Though to her, Gladsheim is right since that's the side she's on.)

I have a feeling that Quelorie hasn't really had much contact with humans. Or rather, she's never been exposed to an atmosphere where she's lived among them for a long period of time. There's a lot she doesn't know about them and I think she's really curious to learn. (Maybe more than her :| face is letting on..)

I have a feeling that the Aquilos military is really strict and rigid, so being with Tootsie and Joel, she probably thinks humans are a lot more easy going, and maybe a little slack and lacking discipline. But.. she probably likes that. She probably thinks that humans are really funny. She probably thinks it's funny when Tootsie gets angry at Joel.

Maybe the Gladsheim military is on good terms with them.. so they could have asked for support, or the Aquilos army could have offered it. Either way, they probably wouldn't send their best to go help a foreign planet... but they wouldn't send their worst either. They probably asked someone around Quelorie's rank to go.. and I think she probably volunteered so that she could get a taste of something different.

tl;dr

Random thoughts on the Aquilos:

  • They take promises/contracts VERY seriously. If someone gives their word to do something, they'd better do it. If they have some kind of agreement with Gladsheim (ie, they're sending one of their warriors to help Gladsheim because Gladsheim is going to do something for them), it'd be detrimental to betray them. They'd probably get so insulted they'd like.. invade Gladsheim or something.
  • They also put a strong value on community. They'll go out of their way to help those in need (probably think of everyone in the group as a brother or something like that), but they'll expect the same in return. It's not impossible for others to come into their in-group; they probably view outsiders in a completely neutral fashion until they do something to either prove that they're worthy of being accepted into the group, or should be outcasted. But as a whole, they're probably not incredibly interested in non-Aquilos unless it's business related (ie. trade, military alliances, etc.).
  • I was thinking that the reason that Quelorie is a :| face, isn't because she's necessarily the emotionless type, but because she physically CAN'T make any other faces. They're supposed to be based on fish/aquatic creatures. And obviously.. fish can't make more than one face. Rather than facial expressions, they probably have some other way of showing emotion. (Maybe it's not something humans would be able to notice or understand, but it's easy for any Aquilos.) Perhaps they give off some kind of pheromone, or maybe their hair tentacles move a certain way to express different emotions. I haven't figured it out yet.
  • Their society is a mix between high tech and tribal. Their planet is water based, so the majority of their structures are underwater, but because they're amphibious there are some structures above ground also. (Probably used mainly for interplanetary travel and stuff like that. Airports, runways, hotels..) They have many commodities of an industrialized planet, but at the same time, they probably have very little "lavish" commodities like entertainment.. I think it's not really something they would value or deem necessary. Likewise, I think that they probably prefer to hunt for their food, kind of an animalistic instinct they need to act on. I think they're probably a community of warriors, too. (Or at least, their military plays a very large role in their lifestyle.) Also, there's probably not gender bias there. Females are seen as being just as physically capable and powerful as the men. (Especially because being aquatic, 'strength' is probably based a lot more on speed and agility than what we'd think of as physical power.) Oh, and there's a monarch.
  • As for general personality.. I think they're probably varied, just like humans are. The personality type that's most "valued" would be brave, serious, trustworthy, and a sharp wit (I think their sense of humor is probably very subtle sarcasm). Society as a whole is probably pretty serious, strict, and formal. Humans might find them boring! But maybe it's because they can't understand them. Aquilos are fairly intelligent, though not to the point where they ended up as a community of scholars. They probably use their wits as a means to sharpen their physical prowess.

Okay I will add more to this later if I think of something!

Now on to Quelorie. She has a lot of traits typical of her race. She's incredibly dedicated and hardworking, takes promises very seriously (which is why she'll be very, very loyal to the Gladsheim crew!), brave, skilled in combat... but at the same time I think she tends to be really curious about other races. (Especially humans, since I'm guessing they're still kind of the dominant race.) Maybe she secretly watched human comedies on TV and thought they were really funny.. but she wants to know more about them. She loves the way that Joel teases Tootsie. She thinks it's HILARIOUS. Even though I wouldn't say Aquilos are close-minded (they're probably very apathetic), I would say she's more open-minded than most! Probably more open to trying new things.

SWEET I like all this info.

On that note, does Quelorie realize the Gladsheim Military has a bad reputation, and that they don't have very good morals?

[identity profile] kobacake.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well.. I feel like all of that is relative. What kind of morals do they have? They may or may not be considered bad in Quelorie's eyes. Same with their reputation. Who think they have a bad reputation? The mafia? Well the mafia has a bad reputation too hahahaha.
