[ His morning routine progresses as per usual. Wake up, wash up, throw on some work-appropriate clothes… not until he’s cut across into the kitchen for his morning coffee does he notice something out of place. Something very, very out of place. He stops, doing a bit of a double-take at first, blinking slowly and incredulously as he tries to take in what he’s seeing. ]

W-who…

[Just in time for the first batch of pancakes to be done. Nanako emerges with a plate full of 'em, and sets them on the table.]

Um, breakfast, Dad!

[...Still doesn't know which to address. Oh well.]

[Delegated to the menial task of bringing the syrup (figures, Nanako's more reliable than any of the adults in this room), Adachi nearly drops it when he hears their plan.]

Y-you can't honestly be planning to walk into the station like that, sir...s!

What other choice do I have? I'm getting to the bottom of this.

[Oh. Breakfast. Uh. Dojima looks over at his double somewhat hesitantly.]

...Thanks, Nanako.

Nanako, this isn't...

We have to get down to the station. This guy could be dangerous.

Oh... you don't want breakfast...?

[SAD FACE.]

Um, alright... Maybe Adachi-san can eat some of them.

[Whoa, hold up there! Nanako's sad face was a lethal weapon, here. Plus, pancakes. He grabs onto both their sleeves automatically.]

Hey, you won't uh...have energy to argue at the station if you don't have breakfast. We should eat first!

[There's a hesitant look on Dojima's face at that. He clearly doesn't trust another one of "him" being in the house.]

We're not arguing.

[They are.]

And I'm not so sure we have time for that.

Listen, I appreciate the offer...

but figuring all this out should be our priority here.

No, it's alright! I don't want you to be late for work!

[Just gonna put on a brave face. Like always.]

Maybe we can have dinner together later. [You know, if you don't work overtime again.]

[Adachi looks helplessly from one person to the other. All so uncooperative. Why did he even bother? He lets go, running a hand through his hair (it's a hopeless cause; nothing can fix that mess), and simply sighs. And here he had been thinking that he'd get a day off out of this.]

...Well, I guess it's not my place to say. Lead on, sir.

[No such luck, Adachi. There's no way Dojima would let him miss a day, because he'd be the one chewed out for it, and it'd just chain its way down to Dojima yelling at Adachi anyway.]

...I'll try not to be late, Nanako.

[Probably an empty promise. ~~Sorry Nanako. ):~~]

Let's go.

[And Dojima grabs his keys from the counter, thanks.]

Hey—!

Hey! What do you think you’re doing?! Those are MY keys!

[They were never going to get anywhere.]

How about I drive? Not like I haven't before.

[Yeah, Dojima(s), like when you were drunk and couldn't even get home without help.]

[At first, Dojima seems to glare at Adachi, but it's actually at the other Dojima from over his shoulder. They'll definitely get nowhere at this rate, and at this point, he trusts Adachi more than this other "him." ~~What a mistake.~~ He hands the keys to Adachi.]

[He almost feels bad for Nanako. Talk about priorities, Dojima. Adachi waves farewell to her, standing with her plate of pancakes (what a waste), and takes the keys.]

We'll see you later, Nanako-chan! Don't worry, we'll get this all sorted out.

[From outside, where Dojima headed along while Adachi does who-knows-what (like comfort his own daughter), there seems to be a yell of, "Like hell you're sitting up front!"]

[After throwing a pained look over his shoulder, Adachi leaves the house and finds Dojima and Dojima glaring at each other over what looks like a conflict of which side of the backseat to get into. He just...passes them and plops into the driver's seat, starting it up with a sigh.]

Any time, sir.

[Today, preferably.]

[Dojima might be a little... distracted, to say the least, but he's conscious enough of Adachi to realize that when he's rushing you, that's a bad sign. So this Dojima ends up settling on the left side, buckling himself in, and crossing his arms. Probably needless to say, his eyes don't leave his double, keeping him on constant surveillance.]

[Adachi glances at them through the rear view mirror, wincing. He had half a mind to find some television and push one, or the other, or both to where they belonged, because one had to be a shadow, or something. (Doppelgangers? What kind of nonsense is that?) If only it didn't give him away too quickly.]

Sheesh, you guys-

[He pauses, as if thinking better. He really didn't want to get between two warring Dojimas, right now. Being on the bad side of one was bad enough.]

...Uh, so...precinct, right?

Yeah.

[He doesn't even notice the look Adachi gives them in the mirror, just keeping an eye on this so-called "Ryotaro Dojima." A fingerprint analysis should clear this up, though. There's no way they'd have identical prints, after all. That's just crazytalk.]

And step on it.

[That TV is sounding like a pretty good idea right now...]
