Name: Dante Luciano, but took up the moniker ‘Daniel’ to sound more American. Gender: Male Blood Type: Type O- Birthday/Sign: January 15th / Capricorn Age: 17 Occupation/Grade: 11th Grade (junior) Room:
PB: Self-drawn. Appearance: Taking after the northern Italian side of his family (his mother’s side), Dante has a light complexion, blue-green eyes, and light brown hair, cut short. He’s only about 5’6”, with a thin stature. He’s used to doing work though, giving him some definition. He also has a large scar on the right side of his neck, between neck and shoulder. It’s easy to miss despite the size, having healed well, but shines differently than the rest of his skin. On days with no school, he often still dresses semi-formally, wearing button-up collared shirts (that hide his scar for the most part) and dark-colored vests. Sometimes he’ll spruce it up with a necktie. One of his favorite things to wear is a gray ivy cap. With his school uniform, he doesn’t make many changes; just wears his vest underneath, and carries his hat rather than wears it. (Ever polite.) Once outdoors, though, he’ll usually put it back on out of habit.
Personality: Dante appears as uncaring and serious, always doing his studies or work rather than having fun or making friends. However, this isn’t an entirely accurate first impression – although solemn and usually keeping to himself, he can get along with people if he wants; probably due to his manners, or agreeing easily, because he doesn’t like conflict. Sometimes he comes off as a pushover because of this. He’s very patient, but difficult to read. It’s not often that he’ll reveal what’s on his mind. This tends to backfire when people misunderstand him, which is one of the few things that make him short-tempered. He doesn’t like to repeat himself or force people to read between the lines. When he loses his patience, he tends to get embarrassed and distance himself after apologizing. He hates not being in control of his temper. Dante is also commonly misunderstood because of his curt choice of words, but really, it’s because he’s afraid he’ll say something in English incorrectly. At least, some of the time. After all, he’s used to being around his father and uncle who are involved in the mafia, and the harsh language tends to rub off. That’s Dante at his worse – distant, cold, and sharp-tongued.
At his best, however, Dante is rather engaged in learning. If there is something he doesn’t understand, he seeks out to be educated on it. Sometimes, he’s a little oblivious to the obvious because of the purely educational context in which he learns things, and can be spacey when he teaches himself too much, getting too deep in thought. But above all else, Dante values his famiglia; his mother especially. Friendship, unfortunately, is not high on his priorities. Not because he’s not interested, but because he is not familiar with having friends.
But, overall, Dante has no complaints about life. He is agreeable, and generally happy. Sometimes he’s lonely without his family, but he figures he’ll definitely see them again – he promised his mother.
History: Dante was born and raised in Italy, in the city of Naples. He lived with his small family of three; his father, mother, and him. They were very well-off, even if not through legal means, but his father cared about his family before all else. The Lucianos were always supported by Dante’s father (and sometimes Dante’s uncle – his mother’s brother), who let them lead a full life of privilege. Dante went to prestigious private schools (perhaps to avoid attention as well), took lessons in fencing and music (violin), and lived in a beautiful bayside home.
However, it wasn’t exactly a safe life of privilege. Although a peaceful man at heart, Dante’s father couldn’t possibly avoid conflict in his work. Too often he had to go to the “family doctor” (read: doctor who would hide the legalities) with injuries. Only once had Dante and his mother gotten directly involved, by a job gone wrong, which was where the scar on his neck came from. Dante doesn’t speak of the incident, however, since his family survived and healed past it. There was no reason to hang on – it was simply part of his father’s business. However, after that, he refused to take up in his father’s place when he became of age. Though disappointed, his father understood. For a while after the incident, Dante and his mother lived with her brother in Florence for safety reasons. Coincidentally, he is also involved in organized crime. (Guess how his parents met?) Dante became very close with his uncle and uncle’s family, which consisted of three cousins, and his aunt.
They lived with them for about a year before returning to Naples, and then a few months later, in 1933, Dante immigrated to America with his mother, leaving their father behind. His father warned them that things weren’t going to be looking good for Italy soon, and sent them on their way for something better, knowing his son wouldn’t be taking his place. (Even though things were not great for America either, they managed.) Dante was to support his mother by getting an education and starting work in the ‘Land of the Free,’ and was sent to Adessi Hall to complete high school, with enough money to last them a year or two. (This is when he took up the name Daniel to avoid discrimination.) Unfortunately, his mother is a delicate woman, and began to suffer much more stress after being in America – missing her husband, and constantly worrying for him. Nowadays, the only thing that puts a true smile on her face is receiving a letter from him.
Weapon: Fencing foil, and eventually, fencing sabre. Stats: Agility, Magic, Strength, Luck, Vitality. Persona: Morpheus → Astraeus Strength: Electricity Weakness: Ice Primary Skillset: Slash physical → Pierce Secondary Skillset: Electricity Other: Dante has a particular interest in astronomy, idolizing the work of Galileo Galilei and what he brought to the world of science. This conflicts with his love of sleeping, as he’ll often stay up to stargaze. He’s usually none too happy about being rudely woken up, either, even if he pretends otherwise. Instead, he’ll spend the morning in complete silence until he calms down. (It takes him a while to catch up with what's going on, too.)
